Fender American Deluxe Strat Hss Manual Transmission

American

No need to contact Fender - a 2005 American Deluxes will definitely have a 9.5' radius as the compound radius didn't start until the update in 2010. The only confusion over figuring out the radius by serial number would be if you were looking at one with a 2009 (i.e. 'DZ9xxxxxx') number - the very first runs of 2010-spec American Deluxes still had the 'DZ9' numbers. Then you would tell by other specs - only 2010-spec models have NS-3 pickups and they have regular pearl dots on rosewood board models and black pearloid dots on the maple board models.

Used Fender American Strat

I've been toying with the idea of acquiring an. I had a Squire years ago and it was ok. I'd like to have that Strat sound again, but am not sure which models are really worth it. I liked the idea of the rolling nut on the deluxe model, but many of the features like the S1 Switch and the Passing Lane Switch seemed like novelties that are mostly useless or simply mask the standard capabilities of the pickup. I figure you'd probably not really need most of these things and could probably pick up a cheaper model with pretty much the same quality. Can anyone speak from experience about these features? Edit: The roller nut is awesome though, right?

I personally prefer the Telecaster. I've got three of them and only one strat. I like the traditional looks of the Tele (although the Strat is just a teensy bit younger and can probably stake just as legitimate a claim to 'traditional' as the Tele can). I also find the Tele body more comfortable. When I was a young, slim hardbody the Strat was more comfortable, but now that I've aged and acquired a thick layer of padding, I find the Tele much more so. They're both great guitars and you really can't go wrong with either. Have to disagree (but it's a wholly subjective thing).

I own a 2013 American deluxe and having played many MANY strats over the years, the N3 pups stand up perfectly and absolutely get that 'strat tone'. I have heard that the American factory has really gotten their shit together recently and that 2012 and onwards the guitars they produce are significantly better than previous recent years. All I can say is go for it. The way I see it you get great single coil strat tone but without all that shitty hum.

I don't care about 'that's what single coils are about' crap, it's annoying. I also thought the S1 switching was pointless, but since purchase I have found it to actually be very useful. Hey, it's more tones to choose from. I just bought a strat at the factory in Corona through the American design experience.

I got to sit with Dave Maddux from Fender (who has been there since the mid seventies) and play with the various configurations. He was of the opinion that the N3 pickups are the best option as they sound just like the standard single coils but with less noise. We compared cranking them all the way up and the noise difference is clear. Given his history with the model I trusted his judgment on the tone.
